Peter Johns FIPG - Inventor of Argentium Silver

Peter Johns is the Inventor of Argentium Silver and the Technical Director for Argentium Silver Co. Ltd.

Peter trained and worked as a silversmith for twelve years, and is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and the City of London.  During his apprenticeship, he won a Gold Medal at the Industrial Olympics as well as several awards for craftsmanship.  His masterpiece to gain the freedom of The Goldsmiths’ Company was a silver cross, which is now the Processional Cross used at Canterbury Cathedral.  Peter is also a Fellow of The Institute of Professional Goldsmiths.

Argentium Sterling Silver was developed through Peter's research at Middlesex University, where he set out to prevent firescale in sterling silver, using additions of germanium.  Further research revealed other superior properties of the silver/germanium alloys, including high tarnish resistance and unique heat-hardening properties.

Peter directs the research activities and product development program for Argentium Silver Co. Ltd.  His responsibilities include liaising with manufacturing companies, providing technical support and working closely with their technical teams.  He is also responsible for promoting the technical benefits of Argentium Sterling Silver through lectures, presentations and practical demonstrations across the globe.
